A women-first space to meet and connect.
Service Design | Retail Design | Branding
Design a retail space for a brand that does not have a physical presence.
Bumble is best known as a dating app where women make the first move.
However, Bumble has expanded beyond just dating, and now features Bumble Bizz (for networking), and Bumble BFF (for making friends).
We wanted to use this retail space as an opportunity to round out the perception of the brand.
We interviewed Bumble users and Bumble employees to get a full understanding of the brand.
For our design, we consulted with interior designers at a local architecture firm, as well as employees at Preacher.
Create a women-first space to meet and connect.
1. Playful 2. Welcoming 3. Bold 4. Feminine 5. Fun
The first floor is open to public, inviting place to meet/gather.
This space functions as a physical manifestation of Bumble’s BFF functionality.
As a result, we’ve designed a space that encourages conversation and connection.
First floor Details
Coffee cups prompt conversation and reflect Bumble’s values.
Each table will have a deck of cards with conversation starters. The pink cards are for networking conversations (Bumble Bizz), blue cards if you’re meeting a new friend (Bumble BFF), and yellow cards with conversation starters if you’re on a date (Bumble Date).
The second floor represents Bumble’s Bizz functionality.
We designed a members-only, female co-working space with casual vibes and areas for both individual + group work.
Textures + Materials
We chose a soft, but durable velvet for the furniture to make the space feel warm and welcoming
For the bathroom, we wanted to echo Bumble’s honeycomb logo in the tile. White marble in the kitchen makes the space feel fresh and modern.
Gender neutral bathrooms feature modern fixtures consistent with Bumble’s fun, welcoming design.
I drew custom wallpaper that features successful women such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Michelle Obama.
The rooftop represents Bumble’s Date functionality.
We created a space that encourages mixing and mingling with areas for more intimate conversations.
Third floor details:
Bumble’s playful tone is reflected in cocktails like “Not Your Average Jane”, “FGOTUS (First Gentleman of the United States)”, and “Boardroom Bellini”.
Since it’s an outdoor space, there will also be planters with honey bee friendly plants like cosmos, echinacea, snapdragons foxglove, and plantain lilies.
For our presentation, we decided to surprise our class by hosting a launch party on our rooftop.
Bumble was pretty excited about our project so they sent us some free merch.
